Mayor Ram Gopal Mohale said that the "introduction of Water-ATMs by Modi in the city would be a good initiative to provide potable water to local citizens". The announcement for the same, he added, may be done by the PM in his next visit.
District magistrate Pranjal Yadav also admitted that there is a proposal regarding establishment of water-ATMs, though its details are awaited.
It is considered that a leading company in the field of reverse osmosis (RO) and water purifier plants manufacturing has shown interest in establishing air-conditioned kiosks with water-ATMs in Varanasi. But the officials here are not aware whether these kiosks will operate on the lines of Delhi Jal Board's project under which decentralised water treatment plants were established to extract ground water and purify through RO system before serving to buyers through water-ATM or on some other mode.
The Water-ATMs have also been introduced in states like Rajasthan and Karnataka in the past. But, officials said that until the detailed information about the project is given to them knowing its proposed model for Varanasi is impossible.
Apart from Water-ATMs, Modi may also announce the launching of ambitious ring-road project that was announced by previous BJP-led NDA government. With the formation of Modi government at Centre in 2014 the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) had already geared up preparations to start works of this project on ground.
The formal inauguration of Banaras Hindu University's multi-specialty trauma centre by the PM might also take place during the same visit. The BHU vice-chancellor Prof GC Tripathi has already made it very clear that the centre has been made functional and ready for inauguration. Initially the PM had to inaugurate it in October 2014 but it was postponed due to some reasons.
